The Last Time I Ran Like That...

Hello everyone,

Phew...I am exhausted! More on that in a bit! Friday saw my first official check-in with my supervisor. We went over my tasks, and all are on/ahead of schedule! Then the dreaded Friday bug hit me...you know that feeling, when you are watching the clock obsessively, and work grinds to a halt? Yah...definitely hit that part, so the day ended slowly. I then went back to my room, to continue my summer viewing list (tv shows I have never seen and wanted to, or shows that have been recommended to me). Every year, my goal is to complete 2 shows during the summer...and that is going well!

Saturday saw my exploring side come out again...with minimal sleep again though. For some reason, I still got out of bed around 8am...stupid insomnia...but I have a plan to fix that...more to come later in the week! I went to the farmer's market downtown, which was neat. It was more of a street vendor festival type event, but it was fun walking around and seeing the different vendors! One guy was selling elk meat...but I was not that daring...maybe next week! Afterwards, I went to a wine tasting and tried several white wines, most of which were made here in Canada! After the farmer's market, the block party started. They had a beer garden area, more vendors, a fashion show, and a movie on a giant screen! They had blocked off two streets for this event, so it was also cool! After hanging out with some people from work, I used the ever-efficient public transit to get back to my room.

Quick side note: apparently "the nod" is not well accepted here. You know how there are levels of acknowledging someone while walking by if you make eye contact..."the hello", "the what's up", and "the nod". PEOPLE DO NOT NOD BACK HERE! It is so weird...they look at you like you are crazy! Maybe it is an American thing...and if you do not understand what it is, maybe it's just a me thing...but it's important in MY own little world...and probably is something I will just have to get over...

Sunday was fun...as I went to the local grocery store (the one where I have my provided gift card). It's always fun using a $500 gift card...try it if you can...because people look at you like you are rich. Every time I have gone in, they go to read the amount as I am about to leave and they stutter in amazement. I no longer bother to explain it. Also, the guy asked me today if I wanted my items bagged. I looked at him and then my items (in which I had a 4L (1 litre = a quart) of milk, cereal, apple juice, frozen dinners, and Oreos) and said to him, "Well if you are going to let me take a cart back, then I don't need bags." He did not smile. He then continued bagging my items, and double bagged (stop it, you know who you are!) the milk. I then jokingly said, "Haha, yah, i like killing the environment." He again did not laugh or smile. Apparently that is not funny in the land of getting deposits back for recycling bottles and cans...

And of course the most exciting thing this weekend happened...Capture the Flag. Now I'm sure all of you who know me know that I am not a very physically active person. "You should only run if there is an emergency" is my motto, so this would seem out of my liking. IT WAS A BLAST! The last time I ran like that was when there was a fire in the garden back at Virginia Wesleyan, and I had to use a fire extinguisher for the first and only time. I had so much fun...and the super-competitive person in me was stoked. There were about 18 people there, and the playing area was an entire quad (just a little smaller then the Drillfield). It was freaking awesome...and I will definitely be playing again! So after out running people for about 2 hours (and coincidentally getting caught by people faster then me), I am exhausted...

More to come later this week...but if you have any questions about anything I haven't covered yet, feel free to e-mail me and I will respond! Have a good week!
